The city has adapted to this new growth by instituting well-designed zoning and planning rules to keep growth under control. Plenty of parks, trails, and open spaces are a big attraction, as is its historic old downtown. Trout fishing in the Vermillion River and hunting in the open spaces are popular pastimes. The schools range from average to very good, with the city’s high school ranked in the average zone. The city is proud of its heritage. The old downtown district is well preserved and is a destination for visitors.
Property listings vary over a wide range of types and prices, based on the active listings by Northstar MN MLS participating brokers and agents. Under $150,000, you’ll find vacant building lots, a few townhomes and condominiums, older homes in the original part of the city, and some more modern homes. Some foreclosures that may represent excellent values. A wide range of single-family homes, built between the 1960s and today are available in the $150-250,000 price range, becoming more spacious and more recent as the price increases. Price reductions have brought additional homes into this range as well. From $250,000 to $400,000, you’ll find homes in the carefully laid out developments in the newer, northern section of the city, with appointments and size proportional to the price. New homes ready to be built are common as well. Above $400,000, only a few homes on acreage and hobby farms complete the listings.
