The northern portion has a suburban feel typical of most northeastern suburbs of Minneapolis St. Paul, while the narrow north-south strip is a mix of businesses and residential properties.

Most residential streets meander, and plenty of cul-de-sacs provide a cozy feel in most neighborhoods. The combination of all these factors makes this city an attractive community for commuters.
Homes are predominantly single-family homes, built in a long range between the 1930s right through the present day. Some residential lots are still available. A number of townhome and condominium developments offer additional choices, including condominiums on Tanners Lake. Townhomes and condominiums dominate the multiple Listings under $100,000, with only a few single-family homes in that price range, according to the active listings by Northstar MN MLS participating members. Homes priced between $100,000 and $200,000 make up almost half of the listings, and range from condominiums and townhouses to single-family homes, built between 1960 and 2000. Foreclosed properties are available in this range as well. The $200-400,000 price range includes spacious homes in many styles, with most priced under $300,000. Very few homes are available above $400,000.
